Sentul Trails & Acacia Camp
Pioneered by idGuides, nutured with your visits
Private Treks & Runs, led by idGuides Community Trail Guides, all farmers whose fields and footpaths you hike & support.
The Sentul Trails are developed by idGuides in partnership with the local Sundanese communities of Desa Karang Tengah since 2009, pioneering a sustainable trail tourism model to regenerate and preserve rural highland communities, agricultural heritage and environment through trail ecotourism.
The Sentul Trails join together farmers’ footpaths, highland forest routes and traditional agricultural trails, travelled and maintained through the ages by the local Sundanese communities from Cigobang, Leuwigoong, Wangun, Depok, Babakan Nyantai, Cimandala, Cisadon, Babakan Banten and others, settled in the Ciherang, Cibadak & Cileungsi River Watersheds of Mega Mendung hill ranges.

idGuides Trails for People & Planet
…”Our purpose is to restore ancient routes, regenerate fragile ecosystems and capture traditional knowledge as a modern, sustainable trail economy with a living heritage, before they are lost forever to urbanisation…”
~ Krystyna Krassowska, idGuides Founder
idGuides was established in 2009, pioneering Sentul’s first community-guided private treks on Sentul’s traditional trails to enable Jakartans to find freedom on foot responsibly, and through trail ecotourism support local farmers to build conservation-based livelihoods and modern professions as trail guides.
The Sentul Trails is an ongoing impact project by idGuides’ development division, Trails for People and Planet, which supports communities to develop sustainable trail ecotourism destinations to support watershed conservation, heritage preservation, zero-waste transition, community enterprise and trail stewardship. In 2025, T4PP will launch as a foundation to scale our development, training and impact work for the Sentul Trails, The Great Bali Trail and beyond.

THE FOUNDER
Meet “Mbak KK”
The brainchild behind idGuides, The Sentul Trails & The Great Bali Trail is KK, Krystyna Krassowska, FRGS MSc., British Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society and dual-professional in expeditions & outdoor leadership education, and in sustainable development.
With decades leading expeditions, outdoor education and international development programs specialising in community-based natural resource management, sustainable livelihoods and climate change in East Africa, Belize & Indonesia for Danida, DFID, The World Bank, USAID, NGOs and local communities, KK identified the urgent need for enabling local communities to connect to markets to sustain conservation-based livelihoods, preserve heritage and to be paid for their ecosystem services as stewards of their local environment.
Recognising the role that growing global demand for adventure ecotourism and trails could play to support comunities and finance conservation, in 2009 KK established the development enterprise “idGuides Expeditions ~ Trails for People and Planet”, an outdoor educator and expedition outfitter to specialise in adventure ecotourism development and readiness support, specifically targetting communities in high-conservation-value ecosystems to set up, operate and sustain competitive trail ecotourism ventures delivering natural adventures, as a way to support the transition towards low-carbon, green village economies and finance conservation – from trail tourism.
